MSA Targeting
MSA Targeting allows you to target recipients based on their Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). This makes it possible to send campaigns to subscribers located in specific metropolitan regions. PostUp will perform the match on your user profile data to the appropriate MSA.
You can target one or multiple MSAs when building segments using Attribute Targeting.
MSA targeting is commonly used for:
Regional promotions
Local events
Market-specific campaigns
Geographic audience segmentation
What is an MSA?
A Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is a geographic region defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget that represents a city and its surrounding communities that share strong economic and social ties.
Examples include:
Austin–Round Rock–Georgetown, TX
New York–Newark–Jersey City, NY–NJ–PA
Chicago–Naperville–Elgin, IL–IN–WI
MSAs provide a broader regional grouping than cities while still allowing for localized targeting.
How to Use MSA Targeting
To target recipients by MSA:
Navigate to Segmentation or Attribute Targeting when creating a segment or mailing.
Locate the MSA attribute within the available targeting fields.
Click the magnifying glass icon to open the list of available MSAs.
Select the desired MSA or multiple MSAs from the list.
Apply the selection to include recipients located within those metropolitan areas.
You can combine MSA targeting with other attributes to further refine your audience.
Targeting Multiple MSAs
PostUp allows you to select multiple MSAs when defining a segment.
This enables campaigns such as:
Targeting several nearby metro areas
Running regional campaigns across multiple markets
Excluding or including specific metropolitan regions
Best Practices
When using MSA targeting:
Confirm user profile data is present (Postal Code) for PostUp to match to the MSA.
