Mailing Alerts
Mailing Alerts allow you to automatically monitor the performance of sent mailings and receive notifications when specific thresholds are exceeded.
This feature is useful for quickly identifying potential delivery issues such as high bounce rates, low engagement, or abnormal unsubscribe activity.
Once enabled, PostUp will review the performance of a mailing after a specified period of time and send a warning email if any configured thresholds are triggered.
How Mailing Alerts Work
Mailing Alerts monitor selected performance metrics after a mailing has been sent. If the mailing exceeds a configured threshold, a warning notification is sent to the specified email addresses.
Typical use cases include:
Detecting unusually high bounce rates
Identifying delivery issues early
Monitoring abnormal unsubscribe activity
Flagging mailings with unusually low engagement
Enabling Mailing Alerts
Navigate to the Mailing Alerts settings page.
Select Check Mailing Delivery Statistics and Issue Warnings.
Configure the monitoring criteria described below.
Mailing Monitoring Settings
Check Mailings After
Defines how long PostUp should wait after a mailing is sent before evaluating its performance.
Example:
2 hours allows enough time for delivery and engagement activity to occur before analysis.
Minimum Size of Mailings to Check
Specifies the minimum number of recipients a mailing must have before alerts are evaluated.
This prevents alerts from being triggered by very small test mailings.
Example:
Setting 500 recipients ensures alerts are only evaluated for larger sends.
Warning Thresholds
You can configure alert thresholds for various delivery and engagement metrics. If a mailing exceeds or falls below the configured value, a warning will be generated.
Message Failures
Triggers an alert if the percentage of messages that fail to send exceeds the defined limit.
Example:
Alert if more than 2% of messages fail.
Unsent Messages
Triggers an alert when messages remain unsent beyond the expected delivery process.
Total Bounces
Triggers an alert if the overall bounce rate exceeds the specified threshold.
Total bounces include:
Hard bounces
Soft bounces
Block bounces
Hard Bounces
Triggers an alert when permanent delivery failures exceed the configured percentage.
Examples of hard bounce causes include:
Invalid email addresses
Non-existent domains
Soft Bounces
Triggers an alert when temporary delivery failures exceed the configured threshold.
Examples include:
Temporary server issues
Mailbox full
Block Bounces
Triggers an alert when receiving servers reject the message.
These often indicate filtering or reputation issues.
Unsubscribes
Triggers an alert if the unsubscribe rate exceeds the configured percentage.
High unsubscribe rates may indicate:
Messaging misalignment
List fatigue
Audience targeting issues
Optouts
Triggers an alert when the number of recipients opting out exceeds the defined threshold.
Opens
Triggers an alert if the open rate falls below the configured percentage.
Low open rates may indicate:
Subject line issues
Deliverability problems
Audience targeting concerns
Clicks
Triggers an alert if the click rate falls below the defined threshold.
This helps identify mailings that may not be generating expected engagement.
