Link Categories
Link Categories allow you to group links by topic, advertiser, or content type so you can track engagement and target future campaigns based on what subscribers click.
Instead of tracking individual links one by one, Link Categories let you organize links into meaningful groups. This makes it easier to analyze performance and create targeted follow-up messaging based on subscriber interests.
For example, you might create categories such as:
Cybersecurity Content
Financial Services Advertisers
Leaderboard Ads
If a subscriber clicks a link in one of these categories, that activity can later be used for targeting, automation, or reporting.
What Link Categories Can Be Used For
Link Categories support several important use cases:
Interest-based targeting
Send campaigns to subscribers who clicked links related to specific topics.
Lifecycle messaging
Trigger follow-up messages based on the content subscribers engage with.
Advertising reporting
Measure performance for specific ad placements or advertisers across multiple campaigns.

Automatic Link Categorization
PostUp also allows you to automatically assign link categories based on patterns found in link URLs. This feature is useful for publishers that send emails containing large numbers of links, such as editorial newsletters or webfetched mailings.
Instead of manually assigning categories to each link in a mailing, you can configure rules that automatically categorize links when they match specific patterns.
For example, you might configure rules such as:
| Pattern | Category |
|---|---|
| linkedin.com | Social Links |
| /health | Health |
| /opinion | Opinion |
| /news/ | News Content |
When a link matching one of these patterns appears in a mailing, the system will automatically assign the corresponding category.
